SAKALING HINDI MAKARATING | Movie Review

It sucks being broken hearted.  It sucks seeing yourself picking up the shattered pieces of your heart.

It sucks to wake up knowing you have lost a part of yourself; your daily routine, your confidante, your world.

Regardless of how many years were spent, how many celebrations you had, how many roses and letters were given, how much money you have spent on dates, those endless walks to late night talks, those cheerful butterflies on your stomach or those chilling sensations you feel, to the sacrifices you both made and the judgements you have faced.

It sucks to just throw it all away but you DON’T have to.

Me and my best friend was itching to see “Sakaling Hindi Makarating”

It is an indie film shot in different parts of the country; Zamboanga, Siquijor, Marinduque and Batanes and honestly I only watched the movie because I wanted to satisfy my craving over the places I mentioned a while ago. It is directed by Ms. Ice Idanan.

The story revolves around Cielo portrayed by Alessandra De Rossi who had a terrible break-up with her fiancée after 11 years. As she gets to mourn the loss of her relationship, she then received series of postcards from a mysterious sender with a code name “M”.

Along her journey to find “M”, she met different people that taught her different lessons.

I don’t want to spoil you but if you chose to continue reading, it’s your call, but don’t blame me for not warning you :p

She never find “M”, but Cielo was an instrument to answer a curious teenager in search of her father, and she was also an instrument for a mother’s care for her daughter’s searching.

Okay, at first you were like “I thought it was a romantic movie, but why the hell did it become something else?” Believe me, I also asked myself the same question.

Come to think of it, we are so focused on one thing, Cielo’s heartbreak journey, but if we try to focus on other details, we can see a bigger picture.

And that goes with Cielo, all she wanted was to see and know “M” without seeing the opportunities that were given in favor for her to move on and heal.

Okay so there are 3 things I learned from the movie and I will be sharing it with you (obviously, that’s why I am writing this post)

  1. AFTER A BREAKUP, IT’S GOOD TO GO OUT AND TAKE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR.

It’s okay to cry over a fail relationship but always remember, always give yourself time to get over your drama. You can’t be crying forever (kasi walang forever HAHA)

STOP STRESSING YOURSELF OVER THINGS THAT ARE THE PRIMARY CAUSES OF YOUR BREAKDOWN. LET IT GO, LET IT BE.

Just like what Paul (portrayed by Pepe Herrera) said “11 years lang naman yun diba? It’s nothing compared to the rest of your life.”

There’s more to life than being broken hearted! Take a moment to appreciate other things in life; your relationship with your family, your friends, your relationship with God, (it is a must) your career, you goals, yourself!

BE LIKE CIELO. Go and set yourself on an adventure! There are a lot of places to spend time with the nature, the ocean and the fresh air.

  1. YOU WILL MEET DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN YOUR JOURNEY.

0.jpgWhen Cielo was in Zamboanga, she met Ayisha (portrayed by Hiraya Plata) They made a deal that if Ayisha can teach her how to swim, they can barter phones.

When Cielo was in Siquijor, she saw a shop that allows people to rent a motorcycle. She then asked the locals to teach her how to drive one.

When Cielo was in Marinduque, she met Manuel (portrayed by JC Santos) who also had the same dilemma with her and taught her how to carve a Moriones mask.

When Cielo was in Batanes, she met Sol (portrayed by Therese Malvar) and Camila  (Lesley Lina) who were then discovered as the owners of the postcards.

Back home, there was also Paul, who encouraged her to travel and find what she needed and Mark (portrayed by Jay Gonzales), who is the very root cause of her heartbreak.

Of course, the world is created for a human being that’s why we are here. But what I am pointing is that every person you met has a different role in your life.

Either they are a blessing or a lesson; one has to contribute an experience while we are growing.

Just like her trip in Zamboanga and Siquijor, there are people in our lives that allow us to do things regardless of the uncertainty and the fear.

Whent2ile her trip in Marinduque seems like a big diversion because of the presence of the “missing my ex-syndrome”she feels and “kaya kitang mahalin syndrome” by Manuel, it shows that as time passes by while we try to find ourselves, there are people who will try to win us because they feel like they have the capability to fill the gaps that we are trying to conceal. BUT NUH UH UH. Get back to your goal.

In her Batanes escapade, she might not get what she wanted, but she got what she needed. A peace of mind and a piece of herself, back.

We all have one friend that serves like a Paul; the one who is your encourager, the one who sees the beauty behind the brokenness, the one who is glad to see you growing despite being beaten by depression, heartaches, and self-issues.

Whoever is our Mark; I know we should kill them, (JOKE) seriously, instead of hating and cursing them to death, let’s take time to thank them, because, without them, you can’t realize that you needed a break to recharge and a space to realize a better version of yourself.

  1. IT’S NEVER SELFISH TO LOVE YOURSELF

The only thing that can NEVER be snatched away from you is your own self. It’s never too late to learn to love yourself. It is not just an advice for the broken hearted people out there, it is for EVERYONE. Remember to always, save a little for yourself.

Sakaling Hindi Makarating is more than just a movie; it touches the souls and emotions of the viewers. Aside from awakening our inner Wanderlust, it has also awakened our minds that SELF LOVE is the most empowering thing we could do for ourselves.

It sucks being broken hearted.  It sucks seeing yourself picking up the shattered pieces of your heart.

It sucks to wake up knowing you have lost a part of yourself; your daily routine, your confidante, your world.

But it sucks to see yourself stuck in the moment without even trying to find and fix yourself again.
